Ward Williston Oil Company, today announced that Laurie Cunnington, President, received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2006 Award in the Central Great Lakes region. According to Ernst & Young, the award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who are building and leading dynamic and growing businesses. Laurie Cunnington was selected by an independent panel of judges and the award was presented at an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 20th anniversary gala event at the Ritz-Carlton Dearborn on
June 8th, 2006.
“To get the best from your people, you have to give the best,” says Cunnington. “Give your employees the best tools to do the job and treat each person with total respect, from the management team to the guy who cleans the trucks.”
Laurie’s respect for her fellow man goes beyond her employees. She is deeply involved in many philanthropic organizations including board positions with Opportunity International, an organization which helps female entrepreneurs in developing countries by providing microloans, and the Harvard University J.F. Kennedy School of Government Women’s Leadership Board. Laurie also works with a number of organizations doing relief work in Africa and South America.
The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year awards program celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and continues to honor entrepreneurs who have demonstrated excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. “Ernst & Young is proud of its history in recognizing these outstanding leaders and their companies,” said Frank Maselli, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year program director for the Central Great Lakes region.
As a Central Great Lakes award winner, Laurie Cunnington is now eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2006 national program. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the overall national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California on November 18, 2006. The overall national Entrepreneur Of The Year award recipient is then considered for the world event held in Monte Carlo.
